This 8 AL cylinder of Iso-Butylene (100 ppm) is the standard calibration gas for most common Photo-ionisation detectors, along with Air (Zero Grade) and Nitrogen (99.999%).

Isobutylene is commonly used for calibrating photoionization detectors (PIDs) for several reasons:

  1. It has a mid-range sensitivity for PIDs, making it a good reference point for calibrating a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

  2. Isobutylene is stable and non-reactive, with a shelf life of up to 36 months, ensuring consistent calibration results over time.

  3. Isobutylene allows for the use of correction factors to measure other gases. After calibrating with isobutylene, readings can be adjusted using specific correction factors for different compounds

  4. Isobutylene is relatively safe to handle compared to some other calibration gases, as it is non-toxic (although it can still cause mild health effects at high concentrations)
