CalGaz - Test Gas
This 8 AL cylinder of Iso-Butylene (100 ppm) is the standard calibration gas for most common Photo-ionisation detectors, along with Air (Zero Grade) and Nitrogen (99.999%).
Isobutylene is commonly used for calibrating photoionization detectors (PIDs) for several reasons:
-
It has a mid-range sensitivity for PIDs, making it a good reference point for calibrating a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
-
Isobutylene is stable and non-reactive, with a shelf life of up to 36 months, ensuring consistent calibration results over time.
-
Isobutylene allows for the use of correction factors to measure other gases. After calibrating with isobutylene, readings can be adjusted using specific correction factors for different compounds
-
Isobutylene is relatively safe to handle compared to some other calibration gases, as it is non-toxic (although it can still cause mild health effects at high concentrations)
